Farmall M Quits

I have a farmall M that i use mostly on the grain auger. The tractor runs great but the problem is the tractor will quit on its own without notice, then I can start it right back up. It usually quits ounce or maybe twice per gravity box load. Any ideals on whats going on would be greatly appreciated.

Loose wire or as Gene said a problem with fuel. My BA had a problem like that and I found a leave in the gas tank which would float over the fuel hole and stop it up till it killed the engine then float away and start right back up again

Disconnect the gas line at the carburetor and see if there's a full stream of gas from the tank. Use a clean container to catch the gas. If there's just a trickle of gas you have blockage in the tank or in the gas line.

If there's a full stream of gas from the tank pull that tube fitting at the carb where your gas line connects and look for a screen that may be plugged with crud. Hal

Probably fuel as the guys have said. I had a similar problem on my H one time and found the prongs on the switch almost rusted off. Replaced the switch and fixed that problem.

If it was a fuel problem, it would do some stumbling and sputtering before it died, and probably would NOT start right up again.

I would closely inspect the wiring, all electrical connections, and might even suspect the ignition switch.

I have an H that did the same thing a few times right after I bought it. I found the wire connections on the back of the ignition switch to be extremely loose. Fixed that, and it never botherd again.

I dont thimk its a fuel problem or it wouldnt start right back up. Could it be a coil. it is a 12 volt system

Check for fire to your plugs asap when it quits running. I'm more apt to think its a fuel problem. Hal
