Farmall Super A rear wheels

I am in the process of restoring my late dad"s 1950 Farmall Super A. One rear wheel is stamped steel and the other is cast iron with a 1" rear spacer ring. Is this correct? My dad was a depression baby and used what was cheap and worked.

Yes one side was a heavy cast rim/center and the other a stamped steel one. The theory was the heavy one was on the one side to keep it from flipping over and killing the farmer

The left rear wheel should be stamped steel; the right is heavier cast iron.

The heavier right wheel is used to compensate for the left offset of the engine/transmission and so keep equal weight on both rear tires.

Correct or not, maybe you should consider restoring it as your Dad had "perfected" it, with all his customizations. There are tons of "correct" restored Super As out there, but there will be only one like your Dad's.

I personally have a select finger for the "correct police" snobs who turn their noses up at things like that.

mkirsch, I couldn't agree with you more. I 100% support each persons right to choose how they want to restore/repair/refurbish their tractors.

I choose to go "factory correct" or "dealer correct" as a choice, not a requirement. I also tend to be disgusted with those who scold or turn their nose up for anything not 100% "correct".

At the end of the day, I always put the following statement in answers to questions around originality: "depends upon what you want to do".

At the end of the day, if someone wants to go "correct", good for them.......and equally good for the ones who want to keep Dad's or Grandpa's updates....both are fine in my book.
