Painted decal on Old H

2 years ago I was at an auction to look at an old H that had been sitting under a tree for 5 years waiting on estate sale. As I looked it over everything was there and original. I could not find any alterations. All metal was good but both rims had bead area corroded away and tires were half flat and broken. I noticed the decals under my eyes and glasses appeared to have been fine brush painted. I was sure that in the circle around the H brush stroke could be seen. Tractor had never been repainted was in it's old clothes. I ran it to $775 and it sold at $800. The guy that bought it worked a couple of hours had it started and drove it off but cut off and then they trailered it. Here's the question... Did they ever paint the main lettering on Old Farmalls? This one had a perfect job.

I would say it was done by an 'artist' at a later date.I seriously doubt that IH would have gone to the additional expence of paying someone to paint....Or it could have been some kind of 'experimental'.But I doubt that too.

"never been repainted" I doubt it. But after 75 years it can be hard to tell. I know for a fact I repainted a 5 year old tractor when I was in high school. It was very common in the old days for tractors to be "freshened up" after only a few years of use. In fact I read in an IH memo from the 20s that if a new tractor sat in outside storage for over 6 months it was to be repainted before delivery. Yes, the paint was that poor.
