I'm rebuilding a '41 H with no choke rod. Does anyone know what this looks like? Original # is 60840DA and it snakes from the right lower steering support to the left side of the carburetor. Can't find a replacement but it can't be hard to make IF I knew what the original shape was. Thanks!

It is a thin metal rod about the size of coat hanger wire or a bit thicker. I have sold all I had. There is a ring about 1" in diameter on the operator end an a right angle about 1/2" from the choke end. There is a hole for a tiny cotter pin at the end of the rod.

There is a loop for your finger to pull on. Other than that just make it so it works. I don't know if you will ever find one that hasn't been bent one way or another to suit the farmer's fancy. the original went through a little spring guide to keep tension on it. I seldom find those intact.

Two different ones were used in 41. Choke rod number you posted is for serial numbers 70410 and higher. Should be like most all H tractors except early and late. Below 70410 mounted to the left side of rear tank support and used a spring loaded loop to mount. Don't think real early H tractors used a choke rod unless equipped with electric starting. Choke rods were only listed in electrical parts early on.
Was thinking the choke rod was changed a little on real late H with the switch on the starter. But I looked and it shows the same rod for 70410 on.

Y ou know where it attaches on each end.Jus make a couple of bends to get it there. BTW,made several of them, not at all hard...

Putting the "H" rod back was tricky. It will go in, but it has curves and bends, it would be very hard to describe it. The real one works perfectly, it does not scrape or bind. However if I was doing it from scratch, I wouldn"t bother. I"d get a generic choke cable from NAPA, in the spiral cable.

We have new ones ready made. We have patterned these off of original or NOS ones. You can contact me if interested. We have all the choke rods and all other control rods in stock such as belt pulley, hydraulic, pto, throttle, shutter control, all for the F series through the SMTA tractors. I've been giving some thought to installing a cable on my '40 H. That original choke rod is nearly impossible to reach while setting on the seat.
