Replaced oil pan on H

My old H has had a crunched up oil pan on it since I have owned it. It looked like an implement or something had crunched in the bottom and the back was caved in a little. It was full to the top pet cock when I drained it and got out a little over 4 quarts. Put the new to me one on { and it’s not perfect} and now takes a full 6 quarts to fill it to the top pet cock. With the old one off I could see where someone had tried to hammer it back out. Cleaned a bunch of hard black junk off the pickup screen also. Sorry for the blurry photo. I didn’t have my glasses on and thought it looked good at the time. Lol.

Kind of makes a guy wonder just what kind of abuse these old tractors have been subjected to. One of my Hs also had a dinged up oil pan. One lower rear corner was pushed in quite a bit, so I removed the pan, thinking I could straighten it out. I laid the ball part of a ball-peen hammer against the dent, and the hit that hammer with another hammer. The dent responded a little, so I hit it again. Apparently that pan was rusty also, because the hammer then went right through the pan and came out the other side. I tossed that oil pan on the scrap heap and found a better one.

I've got TWO M's here with nearly identical dings in the oil pans. It looks like someone drove them in a huge hole and laid the pan on the ground. The bottom is caved in a bit and the drain bung is cockeyed. I'm not sure what someone did to these old beasts.

Had a similar problem with my grandfathers H when I got it. Someone had tried to jack the front end up using the drain as a jack point. Caved in the bottom of the oil pan of course. I made a puller using pipe and threaded rod. By blocking up against the frame I was able to remove almost all of the cave-in. Never even had to remove the oil pan, but those oil pans are made of tough stuff, took a lot of force.
