I advertized my WK40 a few weeks back at $8000.00. Didn't sell. I also wondering worth. When owners of WD40s are asking $ 12,000.00. One problem I have I am in Colorado9and poeple don't want to come this far.

Like Martin said, location is important. The cost to fuel for hauling can adds up. I am interested if it is not too far. Where is the tractor located?

the word restoration is a big sticker, as some call a painted tractor restored and that's not true. restoration is every nut and bolt and piece removed and put back to factory spec's. it has to be as if it came from factory again. very small percent of restorers do this so pretty hard to put a price on a "restored " machine. need to see in person or good pic's for fair value. it can be worth 3000.00- 10,000.

most people just call them w40's. the early ones had smaller pistons and were called WA 40's. then they had a bore increase to 298 cid and were called WK40's. the K is for kerosene is what I understand.

never understood why some 40's bring a premium and other have to be given away. I DO know that the diesels bring what they do because of their scarcity, period

A true WA-40 will bring decent money because they only mad about 400 of them total. there again, its the scarcity of them.

W and WK's just don't have a good trend you can put a pattern on in regards to finding a guideline for value. Ive had a couple WK's in the past and the reason they went down the road was the fact the original engines were junk and replacement parts is a PITA to find. Id rather have a good running 22-36 over a 40

In the past 2 weeks I've watched (7) 40 series McCormicks sell...Here are the prices and pictures top to bottom..

1-Older restored WK-40 at the Seger sale on March 21st at Johnson,KS brought $9250..

2-Unrestored WK-40 at the Seger sale with a Red Diamond truck engine on LP sold for $1050...

3-Unrestored WK-40 at the Seger sale with original engine sold for $900..I should have bid on it..

4-Unrestored W-40 at the Seger sale with original engine and no manifold sold for $1125...I didnt show a picture but a W-40 chassis sold for $600..

5-Unrestored WK-40 at the Seger sale made in to a WD-40 with a TD-14 crawler engine sold for $1800..They had done a nice job..

6-1935 model WA-40 on full steel sold for $1750 two weeks ago at Coffeyville,KS...I bought it knowing that it had been in a flood in 2007..It has a decent manifold...Only (331) WA-40's were built..This tractor has a W-30 gas tank so I could sure use the correct 40 series gas tank for it..

7-1935 model WA-40 on full steel sold for $850 two weeks ago at Coffeyville,KS..The manifold is bad and the gas tank was rough..

All W-40 McCormick tractors had 4 speed transmissions....Several of the WK-40's at the Seger sale had 4 speeds put in them..

I'd say that an unrestored W-WA-WK-40 is worth $1000-2000 and a nicely restored one is worth $7000-10,000...
WD-40's go from $10,000 to $20,000..

I don't believe that, as engine parts are pretty much obsolete. try and find main brgs. for them. I don't think some one will pay 3000.00 to get a set re-poured either.
