Lift-All fluid

Hey, got the H timing issues sorted out and she's running good.

Next up is the hydraulics. Manual says use whatever you used in the crankcase. My concern is that is probably not compatible with most modern implements. Is it ok to use normal hydraulic fluid, or IH's Hy-trans?

Thanks,

Alan

Use what is in the other tractors if you are going to hook up equipment between tractors. It is not picky.

If you are the only one using the implements 30 weight is ok, and probably better than lighter oils. Non detergent is on the safe side, but my dad was using SAE 30 detergent in the 50's in both the engine and the lift all on his H. The hydraulics were used a LOT, detergent worked fine.

I surprised you didn't have foaming issued with the detergent 30 wt oil

If its had 30 st all its life you might have leaks internal and or external by switching to a lighter oil

I believe hytran is the replacement oil for all in hydraulic systems

You could even use dextron if you like

Doesn't matter which oil you use

do NOT use detergent oil in an hydraulic system. Non-detergent 20w or 30 w is fine. Detergent oil will foam, and the air bubbles will make the hydraulics "spongy".

I just use the SAE30 engine oil. Mostly the implements used with the Farmall H and M are not used with our more modern tractors, but it has happened that harrows have been used with Farmall M and then the 844S, which uses very a thin oil… no ill effects whatsoever.
