Hey guys, I am beginning to think I bought the tractor from hell! Amyway, the tractor is locked in a foreward gear. Can not get it into reverse.Once again any suggestions please. Thanks in advance The shifting lever is in neutral.

remove the shift lever by taking the 3 bolts out and using a big screwdriver or like tool align the shift rails....if on a slope you will need to apply brakes and push in clutch to relieve pressureon gears...probably you need to adjust the TA linkage so it unloads the TA when the clutch is pushed in ..usually the main cause of such dilemas....

Yes, if you had to jam on the shift lever to get it in and out of gears before this happened, the TA is out of adjustment.

Pull the TA lever back and see if it shifts better. That is the telltale sign that it is out of adjustment. It should shift like butter then.

Pulling the TA lever back will make realigning the shift rails much easier too.

There's a short linkage on the left side of the torque tube that runs between the clutch arm and the TA arm. It is designed so that when you push the clutch pedal all the way in, it pulls the TA lever to shift it into low. Adjust using the techniques in the book, but not the measurements. Due to 50+ years of wear you have to adjust by feel. The link will likely end up slightly shorter than the book says it should be.

Interesting that I have a problem like that on my 400. I almost have to start going in gear then yank it out of gear from reverse to 1st gear. Not a big deal at the moment.
