Gooseneck Trailer Lock

I have a flatbed gooseneck trailer that I use to haul my tractors. When I take it to shows or leave it someplace unattended I would like to lock it so that no one can hook on to it and steal it. I have seen many kinds of locks on the Internet including locks for the hitch as well as wheel locks. Any body have any recommendations? Roger

take a 2 5/16 inch ball, cut off the bolt so it is flat on the bottom, put into the receiver, and lock it closed with a padlock.

The hitch on mine is adjustable to accommodate different vehicle heights. When I need to leave trailer I pull the pin and take the hitch part with me.

D7Fever's suggestion could be defeated by Dean's suggestion.

You may have a cutoff ball padlocked into the hitch head, but someone could simply pull the pin, install their own head, and take your trailer anyway.

Or, they could take a cordless angle grinder to your padlock...

Do what you can, but don't think for a second that there is a foolproof way to prevent theft. Anything is better than nothing, but all you'll ever do is slow them down.

I have a trailer with holes in the wheels. I sometimes run a chain through a hole and around axle or something solid on trailer and padlock it. Would be hard for a hurried thief to see, and he would leave a good trail to follow or until he saw what was going on. There could be some damage to trailer, but you might still have it.

If someone wants it really bad they are going to take it, but 95% of thieves want a quick steal so if they can just back up, hitch it up and do nothing else that's what they want. Less fuss and less chance of being noticed. So I would put something on it, but it's not a 100% guarantee.
