806 gas fuel tank

I was able to get my 806 home Wednesday. I did not have time to do anything with it until today. It didn't run perfectly smooth so I thought I would tinker with it a little. First I replaced the rubber fuel line with a steel one. I ran it from the electric fuel pump to the carb. My manual hasn't got here yet but I don't think this was stock. This made me think some had a fuel delivery somewhere along the line. I also changed the plugs and did a visual on the points. Started it back up and pretty much ran the same, not as smooth as my 560 gas. I thought I would drive it a little and see what happened. After about 10 minutes it sputtered to a stop. I pulled the line off and just a small trickle came out. I blew on the line and at first dirty gas then a good flow. Hooked it back up fired it up and ran smooth as silk! Drove about 400 yards and sputtered to a stop again. Repeated previous process and got same results.Drove it back to the shop and parked it. Now my question is there a screen in the tank that is stopping up and am I going to have to pull off the tank to fix it? Thanks for any help/advice. Lee [Sorry post so long]

There is a stand pipe incorporated in the sediment bowl inlet fitting. No screen on the inlet pipe. Evidently the tank is contaminated with debris.

A thorough cleaning is in order. Best procedure would be to remove the tank but it is possible to clean one on the tractor if you don't mind the mess.

If a full flow of fuel is available from the tank an electric pump should not be necessary.

Thanks Jim that gives me a little better perspective. That's what I thought when I saw the electric fuel pump. I don't know which way I will approach it but your answer gives me a little better understanding. Lee

lee, As Jim said there is a little stand pipe incorporated into the sediment bowl. it is avout 1/2 in tall. Yes it sounds like you have got lots of Crap/Gunge,Rust what have you in there.
A little trick us Dsl tractor guys have learned....
the Dsl outlet fitting has the same stand pipe incorporated into it as well!
Go to you local Tractor Wrecking yard and get a AC freon line Screen! (slightly bigger around than a #2 pencil and about 1.75 in long) It is just ahead of the Compressor on a IH 1086 AC system. It is just perfect to fit over the little stand pipe part of the Bowl assembly. All you need it some very small wire to clamp it on with! OBTW... a very sm hose clamp will not go into the 3/4 hole in the tank! I have one on my 966!
If You want to visit my # is (512) 577-3837.
Hope this helps
