706 Fuel Gauge

The fuel gauge on my 706 gasser bounces all over the place, regardless if it"s full, 1/2 full or almost empty. Is this common, or do I need a new gauge or sender?

It is the sender unit inside the tank. You can take the sending unit out of the tank , examine it and you will see the thin metal spring that contacts the copper wire windings. Use a needle nose pliers or tweezers to bend the spring so the spring makes better contact on the winding wires. I did it to my 756 a few years ago and it worked correctly afterward.
