MD SIDE BATTERY BOX/ H and M DISTILLATE HEAT SHIELD

I have a friend that may look into making some side mount battery boxes for the mds... the one that bolts on the platform next to the seat. I have a good box with lid and mounts to use as a pattern. Also looking into making the kero/distillate manifold heat shields. Wanted to know if there would possibly be any interest in these. We would sell the box complete with lid,mounts and mounting bolts. Any feed back is appreciated jim.
 
Did you know there were actually two battery boxes? You have the early kind. The late kind doesn't have to tabs to bolt it down. There are two fancy pieces of steel that replace them.

Jim wanted to respond to your posting, sflem849 is correct that there is two different style Md auxiliary battery boxes I happen to have both boxes that are nos. On the H/M Kerosene manifold heat shields again you would need one from a h and one from a m their looks are the same just size is different. I am also a 1941 Farmall MD Owner.
 
I have both a h and m heat shield both ate nos. The battery box I have had the 2 tabs but used a pair of mounting brackets to attach to deck plate. I would be interested in seeing pics of both battery boxes. How about seeing some pics of that 41md. Thanks jim.

That's right, you have the old tractor and the new box. I have the new tractor and the old box.





 
That's the same box that I have. the 2 tabs are missing on
mine, ill use your pics to make new tabs. Thanks for the
pics. The mounting brackets fit the box perfectly, maybe an
upgrade at some point during production??? Jim
 
I can measure them if you would like. I have heard the new one was the same without the tabs. I have one of the metal things, but I am missing the one shaped like a T. IMO you would be better off to make the early style because you wouldn't need to make the brackets and the box.

When is OEM's auction? Maybe you could buy some of their tooling. :D I drove past two weeks ago. That place must have been going downhill for awhile.

This one had some major repairs, but it shows what you need to see.

That would be great, do you have any pics of the front
mounting bracket for the box? The rear bracket is the same
as the one on my tractor the front one looks slightly
different. When I got the box I have I didn't have the
mounts, I got one off ebay about a year ago the box was
shot but the mounts were stil attached. Our thought was to
take a standard m box and remove the tabs on the side of
the box and lid install studs for lid and just replace the
bottom. Not looking to mass produce just help guys out if
they need one. Jim.
 
I would be interested. I made mine 20 years ago out of a regular M under-gas-tank battery box. It looks pretty good, actually. I had not seen only one or two other MDs with the right side box.

I have owned an MD for 10 years and I don't think I have met 1 or 2 people that realize there was a box there! Then if you say BESIDE the seat they say, "Yeah, yeah, yeah, like a SM."
