Super A hyd capacity?

Good friend asked me if his Super A would run a 3 pt hyd log splitter? Told him I didn't think it had the volume and maybe not even ports for hoses for remote cylinder. Told him I would post on here and see Thanks in advance. RB

He will need to tie in the hy system to add a two way valve then add a resivour for more hy fluid keep in mind that system was not made for log splitters ect pump will make 1000 lbs pressure but the flow will be slow running a cycl for splittng wood.If he uses a 4in dia cycl it will have power but will be slow

Thanks Gene, kinda what I thought and also told him he would have to keep it revved up and he'd go broke keeping gas in it compared to the ones with one cyl engines on them.

Even revved up wide open it would not begin to keep up with even the cheapest self-contained wood splitters out there.

IIRC the volume of the Super A pump is 3.5 GPM. I think the cheapest self-contained splitters run 22 GPM, and go up from there.

For some people speed is not an issue. They aren't in a hurry or don't move all that fast anyway.

Some people just want to get the job done, quick as possible.

Thanks for the reply. He is 65 and I think I talked him into just buying slab wood bundles from the many Amish local sawmills. Then he can put that $1000 into wood instead of a splitter and all he needs is his saw then. $600 buys enough to heat his home here in mid MI. None of us are getting any younger either. He's tired of borrowing my sons splitter and thought maybe his little A would run one. Even the one he has seen is $700 then add to that hoses/fittings etc....he's just better off getting slab wood.

$1000 buys a brand new Huskee 22-ton horizontal/vertical wood splitter at tractor supply right now. He'll have $50 left over to take the wife out to lunch of he's tax exempt and claims the wood splitter is for farm use (gray area alert).

Depends on if he buys the wood he'd be splitting, or if he cuts it himself. That $1000 only heats the house for 1-1/2 years but a splitter should last a decade or more.

The only way the SA would work efficiently is if he had a pto pump and a valve to activate it. That only adds more expense that he could put to better use, unless he enjoys the work.
