Hi to everyone new to the forum
.I have a question. i've got a MD that I can't get it to run on gas.I have rebuilt the mag & carb check the timing 4 times and check the manifold for leaks around the butterfly valves. the tractor will hit on gas but won't take off and run. you can pull it and get it to run on diesel and runs great. but i want it to start on gas and not have to pull it . Does any one have any suggestion. I would appreciate any replys or thoughts.

Make sure the butterfly valves in the manifold close fully when you move the changeover lever to the gas position. Problem could also be a bit of junk plugging in the carburetor fuel discharge orifice.

They like a rich mix on gasoline. Is the choke closing fully, and is the fuel flow to the carb open and high flow? Jim

if you choke the tractor i won' hit at all but on ce you take the choke off it will try to start but won't take off

the intake manifold butterfly valves are closed and the carb has been soaked and blown out with compress air

Just checking, but, have you checked spark and ensured that the plug wires are in correct oreder? Sounds almost like ignition?

I have checked the the mag and it is wired according to the book and it is fireing when its suppose to be It's weird because its got fuel fire and compression and ti just hits

Keets,

Go to archives and search for this thread."400D
will not start" It is a post from a few yrs ago dealing with a 400D which is the same thing as the MD

How's the carb float? Mine did similarly to yours until I replaced the float. The originals were cork and will deteriorate and sink over time. The replacements are a different material.. neoprene?? I think.

I had a spark plug gap bridged on mine once and it did exactly what you describe, hit but won"t keep running. Might check your plugs.
