ih 444 diesel

Hi, we had B-414D, 434D and 384D all the same basic tractor as 444. I spent many hours in the seat of the these tractors. If your 444 is USA assembled it will have a Delco electric system vs a Lucas and the front axle and power steering could be different. Very reliable and rugged tractor in the 35 to 40HP class.
Weak points are brakes and glow plug system.
Brakes can be fixed by cleaning and roughing up glazing on disks. Glow plugs can be upgraded to newer style as per:

As with any 40+ year old tractor your experience may vary depending on the use and care given by previous owner(s).

Enjoy your 444

I got rid of the generator and put on a alternator. Best thing I ever did.

When you replace them as jdemaris suggests, you wire them in parallel, but do you supply them from the starter as before?
Thanks Hound.

A picture taken just below would help to.

This is what I posted 13 years ago . Still have her ; still work her hard ; opinion has not changed :

I have one (diesel) and I work it really hard; I even come close to abusing it. I'm not a long time Red man. However I can"t say enough good about this tractor. Agree the price is probably a little high. However I,m not sure I'd part with mine for 6k.
