regular questions

A magnito on a regular my friend is working on is tagged American Bosch corporation. My question is, is that an original from factory mag for a regular? His regular is like one you typically find, moreless has the F-20 manifold and carburator on it with a hole cut in the hood for exhaust. Another question is how likely is it to find original manifold and carburator for a regular? My experience is, they are awefull hard to find due to the fact that many regulars had F-20 parts put on them over the years. He is wanting to stay original on putting this one back together, and I just do not know what to tell him or where to send him for parts. He is wanting to get the F-20 parts off and get back to all original regular parts. I really hate to dis-courage someone from a tractor project, so I really need your help for advice for this guy.

I restored a 1928 Regular with some parts I bought from Jim Johnson located in Miles IA. He gets a little pricey. Google Johnson Tractor

Bosch was optional equipment from the factory. You don't see too many. If works I'd use it. The old E4 mags are impossible to get parts for. Do you know if he still has the original engine? Maybe an entire F20 swap? I guess my opinion is that if you do not have the "original" parts what's the point in faking it? I'd just do a nice job of fixing up what he has. Preserve the history of that particular tractor the way the farmer used it. That tractor has it's own unique story and that is the one that should be told.

We got parts for our Regular from:

Alderson Tractor, IA - carburetor, pre-cleaner pipe from air cleaner to carburetor

Biewer's Tractor Salvage, Barnesville, MN (front steel and a PTO standardizer for a Regular... it has a triangular mounting bracket - does not mount to the bottom of the axle housing like an F-20 does)

We bought A LOT on ebay including a manifold, a couple of carburetors, several E4A magnetos, a potato muffler/spark arrester, valve cover, small starter gas tank and a set of rear steel wheels... and some other stuff that I can't remember right now.

It may have 4" pistons and some other modifications. My Grandpa had a 1929 that was overhauled with 4" etc and he had to go to F-20 manifold and carb as original manifold would just glow with the downward exhaust not dissipating the heat well enough.

I agree. Factory correct, factory original has been done to death.

Preserving farmerizations is where the fun is.
