I would like to know how many 1206s and 1456s were made. Also how many had Coleman MFD but I doubt if that question has an answer. Also #of Gold Demos probably not an answer for that one either Thanks and Happy Holidays!

larry, And You want to know Who shot JFK Too?? Right?
Gold Demos only the Lord has that answer! Too! A couple of fellows I know Believe and I Concur! it was left to the Discretion of the Production Line manger, and what the individual Dealership wanted! and what got pulled off the line and sent to Gold paint! We have only SEEN Gas and Diesels, BUT Were there any LPs Has anybody seen one? Anywhere??
IH was still making LPs into the 56 Series,(656,756,856) No Documentation Exist to our Knowledge! could there have been? Perhaps!
According to Tractor Data Production #s
1206.. total made Row-crop and Wheatland version together ...1289 were made total!
1456.. Row-crops...5592, wheatland...294
W/ coleman front-ends that is a LORD Question!
My attempt at answering you question! Hope this helps!

John -FARMALL didn't work anything like that! Lots of the parts were painted BEFORE they were put on the tractor, especially the hood and side panels.

The final assembly line superintendent's number one job was getting tractors off the line and out in the west yard for shipping. Making them all red and white made that easier... Would have been what he would have preferred.

FARMALL had four paint lines and juggling the gold demo parts around and painting most red and a couple gold would have been a production nightmare.

Not sure how many American Coleman equipped tractors were made but I suspect not many. When I was involved with Elwood and their axles at FARMALL, we could only build TWO tractors per day. And the only time we built ten per week was right after the 786 was released. We built ten/week for maybe 3-4 weeks tops. Otherwise Normal production was 1-2 per week. The A-C axle production would have been much less.

Dr. Evil, You have clarified some of my questions, But the main question still remains?.....?
What was the Criteria of what Tractors was made a Gold Demo?
Who made the Decision?
You talk like You were There! Were there any Gold Demo (rowcrop) LP units???
We LP guys have never seen one!! got any pics?

I was about six years too late to have had anything to do with the gold demo's, but I was at FARMALL for most of the 86-series production and the start of the 5x88 series production.

The most common gold demo by far was the 826. It was the ONLY gold demo with a choice of transmissions. The second most common is the 1456 because it was IH's big tractor. I'd say the 656 and 1026 were about even as gold demos. And the 544 had the smallest production numbers. I don't agree with half of the 1456s being gold demos. The gold demos would have been made between June and September 1970 to have them shipped out to dealers for the fall demonstration program. The dealers got to choose what tractors were their demos for their area. For example Byrum Tractor & Truck/Edenton,NC Hedgepeth Equipment/Conway,NC &Riddick International/Ahoskie, NC each had 656 utility row crops as gold demos. Josh Tunnell/Elizabeth City,NC had a 826 gear drive. Martin Tractor & Truck Williamston, NC had a 826 hydro. Herring Tractor Wilson,NC had a 544 Farmall diesel hydro. Bone International Rocky Mount,NC had a 826 gear drive, 1026, & a 1456. As for Coleman equipped tractors it's impossible to tell because you could order Coleman front ends complete through whole goods. First Colonly Farms in the mid 70's ordered 150 IH 1066, 1466, and 1566's 2wd to clear up peat land in eastern NC. They found out they needed FWA and Mitchell Tractor orderd complete coleman FWA and converted 3 per week for approximately 1 year. Eason

Eason to clarify I meant about half as many 1456 compared to 1206.That would have been a lot of gold demos.Even though gold wouldn't be my choice of color the gold demos stick out and are very popular.
