countershaft nut removal

The 13th of March the sun looks like spring but the temp dosen't.Looked a the H today, still have not got that nut off.Beat it up pretty bad last fall, walk away for the winter.Picked up a 90 degree offset pipe wrench, fits perfect in the space that we have to work with. The question is can I put that wrench on the nut and brace it against the torque tube and put another pipe wrench on the power take off shaft without doing damage to the tranny. Thanks for advice

Put the trans in 5th. Set the brakes or block the wheels. Put on the wrench with a cheeter pipe, and turn it off. If it still will not budge, Split it partially with a sharply ground cold chisel. then turn it off. You might need a new nut anyway. JimN

Put a "Large" pipe wrench on it. As much as you can get on there without touching the floor. Brace on right tire and push with feet. It will come loose. I put a strong 21 year old on the end of the pipe wrench. Put it in gear as mentioned... chocked etc as mentioned above. You will not do any damage to the transmission. The coupling will give way first.

I had to beat on mine with a long stroke air chisel (blunt) for about ten minutes before it came loose. Beat it up pretty good but it was fixable and re-usable. ...Randy
