MW Friction Throttle?

I picked up a friction throttle for my SM. The part number stamped on it is 50F. The friction material is long gone. Anyone still have these available and if not what size is required? The handle portion has a round lowered area around 2 inches in diameter. Would this be the placement area for the material? Thanks.

Is the friction throttle similar in movement as the toothed throttle lever Asa far as pushing it forward and backward? The reason I'm asking is I aquired the M my grandpa had that I spent many hours on and it has a friction style type of throttle. i never drove any other M's so I didn't know there were different levers. The two H's I drove both had the same sawtooth throttles and the MD had a completely different one.

I hate threw cold water in your face, but i remember my dad buying one of them in the middle 50's new,it lasted 3-4 years and threw it away! Unless you want to try putting some center punch's marks on the back side's so the dimples touch, and create some friction!! How's the compression spring ?

Takeit apart and make a disc out of leather, belting or anything that would cause friction when the spring is tightened.

The original cork material is available on ebay for like $2 or $3 often with free shipping included. Steiners sells em too. I bought the ones from ebay for both my h and m with zero regrets. As of others have stated you can cut a piece of leather from an old shoe of belt and use in a pinch too.

I love the M&W friction throttles. The key to making them work properly though is to put in a slightly longer carriage bolt on the spring adjuster bolt so it can be double nutted. Once double nutted the friction adjustment always stays exactly where you adjust it and will never lessen unless your scrap friction material deteriorates. I have not adjusted either of mine in any way in 2-3 years of use and they stay wher I put em. In comparison single nut or a single nylok locking nut will almost always loosen up real quick like (Like same day) from where you adjust it with simply throttle movements spinning the nut.

Here are couple pics I took for another thread that show the valuable double nut and the cork material.

I made one for my H w/belly mower. I can adjust rpm better with that than a notched-sawtooth throttle control.
