TE-20 Operation

G'day I have just inherited a TE20 (18????) with the purchase of some acres.

This is my first tractor so I'm very new and wanted to check if my pto and hydraulics are working correctly.

My hydraulics and pto will only operate when the tractor is in gear and moving, is this correct?

Thanks for any replies and sorry if this has been covered before, I looked but couldn't see anything.

Cheers

You have ground driven and engine driven for PTO. Look at lever. Three point will not
work if clutch is pushed(tractor stopped) down while engine is running. Not live PTO.

Thanks for the reply miner09. So if I get you the pto lever actually has 3 positions, off, engine driven and ground driven?

If it is a TE20 , that is Tractor England 20 made by Ferguson in the UK then it will not have ground speed . There are only two positions to the pto , on and off .

This is why i tell every one with a fergie- any tractor new to them- buy a manual. Or 2. An operator's and a repair. The position of the lever and your foot at the same time is what's going on.

(quoted from post at 09:44:13 09/15/17) The position of the lever and your foot at the same time is what's going on.

Translation1 :D
The PTO is engaged and disengaged by the lever on the left side of the tractor. Pushing the lever back turns the PTO on, pushing the lever forward turns it off.
However, the PTO will spin only when the clutch is engaged. If the transmission is in neutral and your foot is off of the clutch pedal, the PTO shaft will spin. If you press the clutch pedal down, the shaft will stop spinning. The same deal happens when the tractor is in gear. The PTO will only spin when your foot is off the clutch pedal and the tractor is moving.
The speed of the PTO is determined by the speed of engine only.
The PTO shaft also drives the hydraulic pump, therefore the hydraulics only work under the same circumstances I've listed above.
Hope that clears it up for you.

PIc of PTO lever-it's on the housing in the round silver plate.

I like the paint combo, makes sense too- you can tell a helper, move the yellow lever, step on the black pedal, etc.
Is Loni Anderson still on the wall??? back to the left a little if i remember correctly????
