TO30 hydraulic control valve question

I tore apart the hydraulic pump for my 1953 to30 tonight. Everything looks really good. Nothing's wore out, everything fits tight and all the springs still have good tension. What is this part sticking out of the control valve? I can't seem to find any reference as to what it may be. It was held into the end of the control valve by an internal split ring.

For some background on this tractor, when I bought it it had a Lord front loader on it and a backhoe on it as well. From the way things look, that backhoe was probably installed shortly after the tractor was originally purchased. The hydraulic pump for the backhoe was mounted to the Tractor PTO and the 3 point hitch on this tractor was probably never used.

Any idea what that piece that was attached to the control valve may have been for?

Is this clearer?

I attached the pic to the original post. Just didn't upload apparently. I guess there is a limit to file size so I cut it way down. You can see the end of the control valve at the bottom of the pic for reference.

Well, it's part of the control valve. Not sure of it's exact function.

Was it loose? Damaged?

Was there a problem with the pump? Symptoms?

Yes, part of the control valve. I just hadn't seen any reference to it in any literature I had. Also couldn't find a replacement for it so was curious. It seems to be in fine condition, just didn't know what it was for.

The pump is in great condition. All parts fit properly, valves & springs are fine, bushings are smooth & snug.

Since the 3pt hitch hadn't been used in probably 50+ years, all parts inside the hydraulic cover were seized up. It took a torch, penetrating oil & a hammer to get stuff loosened back up. I'll probably still need to replace the cylinder & piston because the piston won't come out of the cylinder. The oil also looked like chocolate milk with chocolate chunks in it so I decided to remove & clean the pump. That is when I found the appendage to the control valve. I'll probably end up tearing more of the back half of the tractor apart to get all the old oil out.

So little more research and some YouTube and I think I figured out what that stem is for. As the pump runs and oil flows around it that stem vibrates and causes the control valve to vibrate slightly preventing sediment and other junk that's in the sump of that housing from causing the control valve to stick. It also looks like there are two different control valves I can choose from, one has the slot for that stem to fit in in one does not have the slot.
