What were these mounting holes used for?

They are on the front of the left axle trumpet on a TO-35 Deluxe.
The right trumpet does not have any mounting holes.

Thank you Richard. This one is a gasser, so only one battery.
That would explain why they are just "there" though.
It wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to build two different
trumpets when one could be used on both the gas and diesel.
 
I do believe they built two different trumpets one for the Diesel FE and maybe any diesel and one for the rest of them. If I am wrong I am hoping someone will chime in and straighten me out. If I was you I would write those two trumpet part numbers down and when ever you see another tractor same model as yours check their part numbers on the axles, it is possible that left axle could have been replaced for some reason.
