Oil pump rebuild?

Working on a non-running 35 with z134. Is there a way to tell if the oil pump needs a rebuild kit? I have no idea the last time it ran. The engine is getting a full rebuild and I am guessing I need to rebuild the oil pump, but I hate to spend another $80 or so if I don't need to. But then again since I have it torn down to the bare block I might as well go ahead and do the oil pump too.
Advice appreciated.

Hi 54 TO35

Why wouldn't you do the oil pump? You are in there doing the engine why not renew everything and be all good to go. $80 is cheaper than a short lived engine overhaul.

Chances are the pump will have some wear unless it was replaced previously.

It is easy to disassemble and inspect. A shop manual gives the wear tolerances and shimming procedure.

I don't really like how the previous rebuild put the set screw in. Looks like it could spin very easily. I went ahead and ordered a new pump rebuild kit. Oh well its only money :)
