Ford 860 PTO Conversion Assembly...

My father is considering replacing the 1 1/8" PTO on his 860 with the 1 3/8" assembly. (This site has them.)

How difficult of a job is it on an 860? I did it on my Ferguson TO-20, and it was easy: remove four bolts, slide out the old shaft, and slide in the new one. (I already had the fluid drained on the Fergy.)

It will be necessary to, drain both the rear axle and the hydraulics. It is not necessary to drain the transmission. Remove and replace the shaft then replace the hydraulic fluid and differential lube.

As the other guys said.. the nuts n bolts of it are about the same.

4 bolts, slide out then in.

the things to consider are that if you don't drain the hyds and diffy.. you can get oil mixing. if you have utf in both, I guess you could just pull it, with a pan under pto, then see if either sump needs topping off, or if the diffy needs draining afterwards. also, when putting the shaft back in, it goes thru a seal, so be carefull stabbing it back in so you don't hog the seal out.

Thanks for the information, everyone. The fluid situation is a little different than the Fergy, with the common sump.

Ste*ner's website has a photo of the replacement shaft, with dimensions, including the "thrust collar", about halfway up the shaft. Looks like that might be a little tricky.

The adapter is starting to look pretty good!
