Starter switch used on 8N, Ford Jubilee, and an 871 ford diesel I just got started. how does this switch work: Tractor has to be in neutral I know . one wire goes to the switch. Is this wire hot? Will check wire on my 8N and Ford Jubilee later. Replaced switch on the ford jubilee as person owning it before me had put in a push button switch

Just got my friends 871 ford diesel started. Fixed the manifold pre heat switch with a push on /off switch from napa Maybe to push button switch in the transmission is broken

Switch wire at the starter button is hot and if you ground it the engine should spin over if the solenoid and battery and starter are good

Hi Old,
Both the wires going to the starter safety swithes on my 8n and ford Jubilee are not hot. Tractors have been converted to 12 volts
My friends tractor is an 871 ford 4 cylinder diesel His tractor has been converted to 12 volts

I mean hot as in if you ground the wire to the frame it should cause the starter to spin over. I have never checked it with a meter but grounding the wire going to the starter button completes the starter circuit

Old,
Thank you for the information. Your information convinces me that wire from the solenoid to the safety switch is a ground to complete the solenoid circuit to make the solenoid work. May have an incorrect solenoid. Replaced the one on the tractor with an identical one from NAPA

Ah but again unless you can look inside you can only have what looks like the correct one but yet not be the correct one. Ones made for a car or truck do not and will not work like ones made for a tractor and can and do look like the same thing but are not the same
