1966 Ford 2000 hydraulic pump

Hello all. Been having some problems with my hydraulics. When I got the tractor a couple months back, the lift worked a few times, then quit. I changed the hydraulic/rear end and tranny fluid because it was very milky. Tried the lift again, worked a couple of times, then quit again. Bought a top cover rebuild kit, rebuilt and adjusted the top cover and replaced the return filter, removed and cleaned the suction filter per the FO-31 manual. Tried the lift again, worked a couple of times and quit again. Next on the list was a pump rebuild. Rebuilt the pump per the manual, reinstalled, decided to do the pressure check. Since I have the 3 position selector valve, I couldn't turn the top plate around per the manual, so I made a gasket to cover the entire mounting area. Checked the pressure, I had nothing on the gauge. I did hear something click as I was closing off the valve behind the pressure gauge, so I thought the relief valve. I pulled the relief valve, installed .060 worth of shims, checked again, still nothing. I'm pulling the pump back off this morning to double check everything. Also, I'm using the Ford spec 134-D fluid. I did notice some wear on the pistons, but they felt good in the bores.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Roger

Well, I got the pump back off. Tore it down and checked that everything was assembled per the FO-31 manual drawings. I did read in the manual that when the idler gear is rotated I should hear a popping sound indicating the exhaust valves are opening and closing. I only heard a very slight popping as I rotated the gear.
Again, any ideas??

Thanks,
Roger

I rebuilt mine a few years ago. Got the kit from YT, it was Tisco, not the greatest quality but it worked. My lift was chattering or would not lift in cold weather. Bleeding didn't help. I replaced the large O-ring thinking is was sucking air in but no change so I did the rebuild. I found nothing obviously wrong with the pump but the new check balls took care of the problem.

I was hoping for the same results. My lift will raise, just not with a load. I did notice that the new valve plate gaskets were a lot thicker that the old ones I had to scrape off. Don't know what brand I got but it came from Steiner tractor. I replaced everything but the piston springs. They were too big for the piston bores.

That's the problem with aftermarket parts, don't always fit. I found the ball cages in the Tisco kit were soft and easy to bend if you're not careful installing them. Originals were harder and a few broke when I tried to straighten the legs.
