3000 safety swtch

Working on this "new" 3000 gasser & so far I really like the way it drives/handles! Found a Ford front blade that was built for this model & have it mounted. Looks like a very handy way to move snow!
My problem: a previous owner by-passed the safety switch for whatever reason by tying the 2 wires together. What is involved in checking/repairing this switch? Where are these 2 wires supposed to go?
Don't have a manual yet (other than an owner's) so would appreciate any advice as to which one is best! A good wiring schematic would also be very helpful.
Now to get the blower out where it is easy to hook up, & get the rear blade on, then LET IT SNOW!!

Thanks UD, but the wiring has been much re-done, & the only 2 wires dropping down there are the ones that used to go to the headlights (which were mounted on the loader I didn't buy.)

I recently installed a new safety switch on my 2000, 3 cyl, gas. I also had the wires cut and spliced together. I purchased the
switch from this site and having the manual I pulled the transmission cover. The old switch is located in the high-low shift
linkage and was easy to replace. Now when I start it I have to have the hi -low shifter lever in neutral. I moved the lever
slightly to activate the switch.

ind the wire that connects the key switch start position to the starter solenoid and cut it & insert your safety switch between the two cut ends.

Thanks JMOR. Just to be sure - there should only be continuity thru those 2 wires when the 2 speed lever is in neutral?

ontinuity in neutral is correct. Somebody said only 2 speed lever & I wouldn't know as I always put both in neutral.

Right or wrong, this is the way all of mine work. Range lever in neutral, gear shifter ignored.
That includes the Fergusons with the twin stick trannies.
I too, put both shifters in neutral. Simply a matter of habit now.

Depends if the switch is on top of the cover or under the cover. Early 3000's with the 6
speed had the switch on the top of the cover. The 8 speeds were under the cover. Both
switches break the circuit between the ign start position and the starter solenoid. I
replace about one a month. I keep 2 or three in stock at all times. Very prone to
failure.Don't be surprised if the oil has deteriorated the wiring harness under the cover
also.

Look under the dash on the left side for a white wire that's been spliced together.
The ends of the wires plug together so look for that, whenever my neutral safety switch goes bad I unplug the wire from the trans and plug the ends together inorder to start the tractor until I can replace the switch.
