Hundred Series PS pump replacement- problem

Hi,

I bough a replacement PS pump for my 861 as experts here were correct- the eaton was unrebuildable. I bought the replacement form O'reillys as recommedned by other posts here and it is in fact a nearly identical replacement.

The one glicth I have hit is the pressure outlet. The old pump had a metal block wiht a male flare fitting and a banjo bolt that bolted tot he port on the pump. On the new pump, ther threads are tapped the same, but there are two key differences

1- the banjo bolt is about 1 mm too long
2- the pump casting is rough on the surface around the tapped hole for the pressure port- it is not machined to seal.

Anyone else have this problem?

thank you

While a picture would be nice about right now, if it's rough cast around the pressure hole, that about has to be pipe thread in my mind. That would also explain why your bolt is too long.

type in search bar Hurley J. D. for his posts on that type of pump. When the page resets, hit the search button again. Someone else posted about filing that rough casting flat. The original banjo bolt should be a straight thread, make sure it screws in easily. The Chinese may not have tapped the hole deep enough if its bottoming out. You can put a thin small outside diameter washer on the top of the bolt. I'm not sure of the thread size.

One other approach is to eliminate the banjo fitting by making up a new pressure line with fitting that screws into your new pump.

Also, seems I remember reading there's an 1/8" re-stricter orifice in the Cardone pump that has to come out of the pressure connection for proper flow. It is pressed in and may be removed with an EZ Out.

Thank you.

I performed that search but did not find that. There is a flow restrictor yes. If you have a hint abut removal I am all ears- and it will probably seat OK

Here is a link to Cardone for a New power steering pump P/N 96-6051. Just give the part number to any auto supply store. This pump is the same as the pump on the later 4 cylinder farm tractors, ie 2000, 4000 etc up until 1964. Price a little under $200 at O-Reilleys no core charge on it. This pump will work, with one modification. The port where you attach your pressure hose has an inverted fitting in it to work with a tube fitting. Drive an easeout into the hole and twist and turn and pull the fitting out. The pump then will be a direct replacement. I think J.C. Whitney sells these on fleabay for about a $100

You might still want to just get a hose made so you dont have to deal with that rough casting on the pressure port.

Is there any information available on how to reduce the pressure on this pump? Cardone 96-6051. I have installed it on my 62, ford 4000 but now I am bending cylinders.
THank you,
CV
