What is the intended purpose of your tractor - Restoration or working girl?

Optimum performance will be obtained with an epoxy primer and a catalyzed urethane top coat. Most expensive but also the most durable.

I have had good durability from Valspar, PPG, Sherwin Williams acrylic enamel mixed at 8:6:1.
8 parts paint
6 parts reducer
1 part hardener
Use a quality wax and grease remover liberally before painting and use acrylic enamel reducer, not lacquer thinner.

Red or grey Scotch-Brite pads make short work of paint prep.

Either use the ford paint from the ford dealer or International dealer (they have the ford paint also). I've used it and its good paint for the money. I use a bare itching primer from NAPA, but its expensive. If its not a show tractor then just use the IH/ford primer.

If there is any rust the most important thing is to kill it with phosphoric acid. If you plan to do a quick two hour prep job use cheap equipment paint. If you plan to put a lot of time into prep to get a really good job, use automotive 2K. I use paint from the Nason line by PPG. it is a lower end automotive paint, so it is half the price of really good automotive, but probably 50% more than cheap equipment paint.
