I was cutting hay last night and had an cylinder blew on the mower. Shut the unit down and kinda fixed It so I could continue but my tractor PTO would not turn back on at all. Had to change out tractors.
Any thoughts on causes? Is the rear end fluid dip stick all the same drive oil and hydraulic fluid like IH? Seemed full.
Every thing else seemed to work.

Thoughts????
Thanks Matt

If it worked good one moment and not the next, I'm going to say that you likely broke the internal valve spool actuating arm. I'd link to a NH parts picture if the website was currently up and running.

Check your external linkage first to where it attaches on the LH side of the case. If that all looks good, then remove the rear upper PTO shaft behind the top link bracket and look inside with a good flashlight. Aim for the same spot as the external linkage. If the arm is broken, you should see the issue.

If the arm is broken, figure on a split behind the transmission.

Yes, it is one common chamber. does theft work OK. In order to know what is really going on you need to put a pressure gauge on the system to see what it makes and if it holds when you operate the PTO lever.

Showcrop what is "theft" and can you tell me what or where would be the best place to install a pressure gauge?
Does over filling it help any at all like the Internationals?
Thanks
Matt

Sorry, that was supposed to be "the lift". there is a port on the right right next to the differential lock, but it would probably be easier to hook into one of your remote valves at the coupling.

Yes all the valves(hyd ports) are working I believe correctly as well as the three point.

The tractor did this once last year after I cut with it 2cnd cutting. Tried to run tedder the next day and wouldn't work. Changed HYD filter thinking that might be it.

Went to third cutting of hay and it worked as it should. Thought filter was the issue but guess not.

Thanks
Matt

When you put a gauge on it, and do it with some hydraulic line so that you can see the gauge, When you operate the PTO lever you should see the pressure drop but not by a whole lot and then come back up immediately. You should check a reference to see what static pressure should be. If when the PTO lever is in on position the pressure drops and stays down that will tell you that you have a leak between the PTO valve and the clutch pack or from the clutch pack seal itself.
