I'm looking at a 3910 and have a couple of questions:

1. I want to use it on a 190 6' drum mower that weighs 900-1000#, 3 pt. Rating on the mower is 35 hp min. Not concerned about the hp
being adequate, but the weight. In the transport position, unlike a 1200# bale of hay, it sticks out the side of the tractor, by 6'.

2. Solution to 1 would be front weights or welding a counterbalance weight on the 3 pt hitch protruding out the opposite side.

3. No current weight/bracket on front of nominee. Are there places on the front of the frame to mount a couple of large bolts to support
100-200# of weight?

4. The front end looks like my 2000 and 3000. Parts interchangeable?

5. How do they stand up to heavy weights?
---------------

I want a special tractor for mounting my mower during the haying season and otherwise not much use for it. I like the 3910 because of it's
amenities and it's not big and row crop which don't work good in my irregular fields.

Thanks for any thoughts on the task and the tractor.

Font end is close enough to a 2000 and 3000 that weight brackets should interchange. Most of them were front bumpers that mounted to the front axle and had the ability to add weights to the bumper out front. I believe the factory bumper used special weights that mounted on the backside of the bumper itself while after market bumpers can be found that have a flat bracket welded on the front that will take generic suitcase weights. You could also use front wheel weights.

Is that the mower that swings back behind the tractor?
3910 has the heavier 4000 style rear axle but still uses the 2-3000 style step back front axle.
If you step up to a 4610 you get the heavier straight front axle and cast bolster, these add a good amount of weight to the front plus it's easy to add weights to that front bolster. The larger 16.9-30 tires also hold more ballast for when the mower is working position.
I have a 4000SU which is much like a 3910 and also have a standard 4000, I like the SU for it's compact size but for handling mounted disc or drum mowers a heavier tractor offers more stability.
If $$ would allow personally I'd step up to a 3930 or 4630 to get the hydrostatic steering.

Last year I installed a 3930 front axle and hydrostatic steering on my 4000, love it.

I had that mower on a Deere 2550 diesel. In rear transport position, if you are moving at road speed and hit a dip, it would cause a pretty good continual bounce for a while. A lighter tractor would have the wheels lift off the ground. Given that a 3910 is somewhat lighter than my tractor was, I would be hesitant to be hauling it around the countryside. If you, however, were mainly staying on your land then it might work ok. For sure, if you are using some sort of hydraulic lift off the side, I would be concerned about enough counterbalance on the opposite side.

In my humble opinion, I would not be using that light of a tractor with that big of a drum mower. I agree that a 4xxx class tractor would be a better bet.

BTW, my tractor weighted 9000 lbs. The spec says a minimum of 4500 lbs, which I think is overly optimistic.

Just so happens I spotted a 4610 that caught my eye and I agree on what you said. Problem it's a 30 year old tractor and it'd be sight
unseen...........really tempted. Shipping would be from Tenn. to Tx. Probably not all that bad. For the price I could fix a few things and be
ok. Thanks for the tip.

Accidentally stumbled across one locally, "1 owner" and wife died, guy that gets rid of estates was selling it, great deal...took me all of 5 minutes from first seeing it, make the quick checks of things including abuse/real hours (898 and had been used by the seller to mow the lot the previous day....so everything is proven to work including the proofmeter) to do the deal, seller knew how to haggle, had my 16' tandem trailer with me, wheels were setup at 6' even, trailer span was 6'4"....perfect and perfect that it fits all my 6' currently setup implements, rolled right on. Got her home without a problem.

Unit is a late 1988 3910 II model and has a much stronger 3 pt, lift capacity 3000#....plenty. Lift arms are half way between arms on my 2000 Cat I and the Cat II I had on a 4600. Going to do the fluids today and when finished on goes the mower and we'll see. I think it will work. Cannot believe this thing just popped up out of nowhere and was the perfect solution.......must be payback time for things I did for others in the past....what goes around comes around..............
