Derust gas tank

Well I bought the rusty old 3400. Want to get it started (has not run for
5 yrs). Need to clean rust from gas tank. Must lift cab to remove tank.
Can I fill tank with E85 and let it soak for a few days and then drain
rather than unbolt and lift cab?

Here's try at pic again

E85 might help remove any water that's still in the tank, just like adding straight alcohol to regular gasoline, but it will do nothing to remove any rust other than the stuff that's already so flaky/loose that a flush with anything would get it as well. If it is really badly rusted, then there's no way to remedy it other than removing the tank, which would require removing the cab in your case.

If it's just a light surface coat of rust, you might try something I have been toying with in my mind for a while, which is to let the tank thoroughly dry with the drain plug removed and the cap off for several days first, and then use a spray gun with a long tip to spray coat the entire inside of the tank with a gasoline resistant epoxy.

I?ve used white vinegar in the past with very good results on old tractors but this last time I went and bought some cheap cola and filled a rusty tank up on a 2N Ford I aquired and let sit several days, the cola worked real good, different strokes for different folks, I?m sure others will chime in with their methods too...
