740 Loader Cylinder Leaking

I'm sure it's never been touched, but the right bucket tilt cylinder on my 740 loader (4500 TLB) it sits most of the time, but now
leaks pretty fast, so maybe it's time.

Pretty handy, but I have not dealt with hydraulic cylinders before . Are they a big deal to take apart and rebuild? Or, how about
remove and take to a shop.

Just looking for some guidance to get theis repaired.

Thanks

Rebuilding cylinders is definately doable and a skill worth having if you have the motivation. Seal kits for the 740 are widely available from Messicks or Baum or Ebay or Amazon. I've never done a 740, different cylinders use different schemes to hold the cylinder together and for sealing. I've found it very useful to have the service manual for the particular loader for disassembley and rebuild instructions. Of course a lot of people are too cheap to make that purchase. Taking the cylinder to a hydraulic shop for rebuild is always an option for people who don't want the hassle and the cost may be reasonable.

I would check their reveiws. I had a shop butcher my near perfect cylinders and then sand the hard chrome off to cover there unprofessional work. They didnt even need seals, all they had to do was pressure check them. Almost $800 for shadetree work.
