3 point backhoe question??

I have a chance to buy a 3 point backhoe but am wondering about a hoe on a 3 point that does not have down pressure (3000 gas). I had one on a 2N mounted solid on an under-body frame. How would the lack of tractor weight because the 3 point would simply float up affect the ability of the hoe?
Just trying to avoid buying something that will not work as expected & can't wrap my head around just how this would work???
Thanks!

Pretty much any hoe mounted to your 3 point will eventually destroy whats holding it. Thats a lot of metal swinging around. A short term stint might not hurt it too bad.

A real 3 point backhoe will have a fixed upper link that is what keeps it "down". You will not be able to do anything with 3 point arms other than hold and stabilize the bottom of the hoe. You can not use the normal top link on these units. Also make sure you have the stabilizers down before doing any digging. Just have to be a bit easier at the controls than a fixed frame mount and you should be fine.

A full frame type mount is what is needed, and like with older tractors with loader that had them, it was a 4 point mount that would clamp the backhoe, support it and was either connected the loader frame, or like the scant few factory 4 point mounts such as Dearborn (Ford), they went to the front of the tractor like the loader frame. I have posted photos in the past of one of these, I'd have to find it in my computer files of photos I have collected.

I'm not a fan of these 3 point hoes much, but they are great for small jobs you do not want to do by hand. One thing I did not like was how close the outriggers are to ones legs when retracted, just a little more room would be nice. The other thing is if digging a long trench, you have to get out of the rear seat and move to the tractor seat to move the tractor ahead unlike spinning around in the seat like a regular backhoe. Figured I'd like a 3 pt model, but after running a few on jobs I did, decided not to go for one. You can still get a lot of use from one, handy for a bunch of things, but nothing like a regular backhoe.

Not if it's properly attached, with the 3 pth arms down and locked vertically and laterally and a solid upper link plus a fixed link to the drawbar. Now of course, the home has to be matched to the tractor size wise.

.

I had a three point hoe on a tractor for 14 years. No problem. Sure like with anything else abuse can lead to problems.
