Oh what have I done!
Looks like I will have lots of work to do.
I had the previous owner send me a picture of the E27N I bought.
Not sure what year it is, but I will post it when I get it home.

The electrical box was put where it's shown in mid-1949. Otherwise, can't see any other details. The front wheels are from a truck. E27N had the wheel and hub cast in one piece, but you may be able to fit New Major wheels to the same hubs. In fact the whole E27N axle, although lettered specifically, seems very similar to the New Fordson Major. Your grille is from a Case, but I've heard new ones are planned. Be sure to get a picture guide published by Alan Condie. If you go through Saskatchewan you should stop and see Mr. Parkinson. He's parted out a few of these and may have some of what you need. It's the missing link in many Fordson collections. Hope you have fun.

Hi cdmn,
All of my E1A Majors have E27N cast into the front axle, so I guess they are interchangeable.

There were two axles used on E27N. One was adjustable and the other wasn't. It looks as if you have the adjustable axle which was indeed carried over and used on the E1A majors. I BELIEVE they are identical. Initially they were all cast iron hub/wheel complete, however I know that other hubs would fit that stub axle. In fact I think when they went over to pressed steel wheels the stub axles remained the same.(I'll take advice on that one) MTF

You have answered a question I've had for a while. My E27N has the adjustable axle but with 6-bolt wheel hubs. The hubs fit the spindles and axles perfectly. I suspected the hubs are from a Fordson New Major. Wish it still had the cast wheels for authenticity, but I'm sure they were changed to use a more standard 16" tires.

Know of any good sources for E27N parts if I decide to put it back to cast wheels (and for other misc parts)?

Hi all
Does that mean that the rims are correct, or are they off an old truck, as cdmn suggests? I'll need a seat and tires, the grill I'll straighten for now.
The big concern is to get it home, then, get it running and painted the right colors.

I believe they originally came out with 4-spoke cast wheels that had no seperate hub. I think they were 19", but maybe somebody else can confirm or correct that. I have seen a picture with another size, but same style. Do a search for E27N in the tractor photos section to the left. I would say yours definitely has some kind of truck wheel and is not original.

Thats correct they originally came out with Std Fordson N type front wheels. (I say type because there is an ongoing argument as to whether they were originally identical or not: three versus four versus five spokes, etc). Suffice to say they were 19" single piece castings. I've just been looking at a batch of Fordsons for sale and you would just not believe the mixture of wheels. The 'proper' cast 19" wheels sre not tooooo dificult to get here in UK but the cost of shipping would be extortionate. Almost like paying your taxes all over again, probably in the region of $800. You want a set I'll try to find them, then its up to you. MTF

Thanks for the offer.
I think the cost would be way too much to ship.
I'll live with these for now and I'll keep my eyes open here for the right set.
I am pretty sure the rear will need immediate replacement.
First I'll get it operational, then work on the rest.
It will be interesting to operate with the brake/clutch pedals reversed.
