Ford dexta oil pump *Please help*

Hello everybody, I have a question and need advice...
I have just finished a complete rebuild on my fordson dexta.

This includes adding the aftermarket new style oil pump.

As many know the ports are different on the new pumps.

Instead of the threaded ports being straight out of the bottom and using elbows (old pump) the new pump has the ports for pickup tube and supply tube going straight out the back of the pump requiring new tubes to be made.

Here's my probem,
Where the heck do you find the compression fittings required to thread into the new pump and engine block for the 5/8 copper tubes and I fabricated and the new compression ferrules.

The old steel tubes had one fitting that could be utilized but I still need two more (due to the fact I am not using the old elbows).

Every engine shop, hydraulic and plumbing shop tell me they don't exist.
They tell me they were fazed out years ago, they were called compression sleeves, they aren't inverted flairs and so on...

Everyone tells me the threads are more like pipe threads (coarse) not flair threads (fine) which is true.

So here I sit with a new rebuilt engine and I am having trouble trying to feed the oil to it because of the compression fittings.

Has anyone come across this and if so what fittings are needed to install the new 5/8 copper tubes and ferrules I retro fitted.

I knew from the beginning of this project I would have to fabricate the new oil tubes but didn't think I would be held up at the end because of the fittings.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and I really look forward to installing the oil tubes, putting the pan back on and firing her up...

Thank you in advance,
Shawn.

texaswelder,

Majorman is quite correct. Head over to a MF dealer. They use the same pump in the 3.152 Perkins.

Coincidentally, I have a question for Majorman which may be of interest to all. Once you get the right fittings to screw into the pump is there anything wrong with using hard copper tubing, elbows and high strength solder (tin/antimony,etc) to run the piping rather than bending it?

texaswelder, I don't know where your pump was made, but be sure to check it out to make sure it meets specs. I bought two for my Dextas and one was not quite up to snuff. I had to lap the base to remove about 2 thousandths to get even clearances. The gerotor inner and outer rotor clearances were correct. I still have not finished these because of juggling priorities.

texaswelder,

I read your post and skipped your main question. Most plumbing stores should have the brass compression ferrules you need. If you can't find any locally I am sure you can find them online.

I have never tried copper in that situation, in theory it ought to be OK.

It is over 20 years sice I did the last one and something tells me the MF
pipework is not too far out but that could be faulty memory.
