Helping a friend get his ferguson running right. Points are shot. NAPA has echlin at $18. This site has a kit for $7.34.

What are opinions on quality?

I believe echlins are in it now, if I can file out the pits live with them?

The "Gold Standard" in points for years has been "Standard Ignition Blue Streak", although there have been some reports here that they may not be as good as they once were.

Standard Ignition (SMP) makes parts boxed as Standard Ignition, Blue Streak, CARQUEST, Cold Power, Duralast, Duralast Gold, Import Direct, Master Pro, Mileage Plus, Murray, and NAPA (NAPA Belden, NAPA Echlin, NAPA Temp Products). The company's own brands include Standard, BWD/NIEHOFF, Intermotor, OEM, LockSmart, TechSmart, and GP Sorensen for engine management and Four Seasons, Factory Air, EVERCO, ACi, Imperial, COMPRESSORWORKS, TORQFLO, and Hayden for temperature control.

One thing to look for... typically the "better" points have phenolic "rubbing blocks" and the cheapies often have plastic rubbing blocks that wear faster and deform from heat easier.

Filing points is a mistake. It makes them burn faster. You will most likely have to file them every time or every other time you want to start it.
