Trying to Get a Roth's Country Boy Running

Hello,
My 12 year old son and i recently picked up an old Roth's Country Boy tractor. The tractor originally had a Kohler k160S (which I believe is basically the same as the K161), but it had failed, so the previous own installed a vintage pull start briggs and stratton 8 HP. Not ideal, but great for my son who is learning to work on tractors and small engines. In any case, we were able to get the briggs running and the tractor operational.

Consequently, the previous owner threw the original K160 into the deal and my son and I would really like to get that engine running and back into the Country Boy. The engine seemed pretty much intact and still had the original Auto Lite Generator and Auto Lite starter motor, both of which turn freely and are not bound. This tractor was from the 1950's and from the looks of the voltage regulator, it was a 6 volt system -

Back to the motor - it turned over freely, but had no compression what so ever. We took the head off and found the exhaust valve stuck in the open position. Apparently, rust from the exhaust port had fallen into the seal area and locked the valve in the open position.

We have resolved these issues and are now moving to the electrical system. Evidently, when the motor was removed, all semblances of the wiring were taken out as well. I tried finding a wiring diagram online, but was not successful. The Kohler service manual has a basic diagram, and one for the stator generator, but not one for the external generator.

If someone has a diagram they could share or pictures of a Country Boy's wiring I would be grateful. Any help with this is certainly appreciated.

Have a great day!

I think I may have figured out the wiring!!!! Using the Kohler diagram for the alternator as opposed to the flywheel stator...please let me know if that is correct? If so, any ideas for the gauges of wire for the various parts of the circuit?

You might also look at an old Wisconsin engine diagram , I have a mid 50s one that hat an Autolite or Delco system like you describe.

Could you post some pictures? I am only Familiar with K-series engines that used Delco generators. And the later ones that used a starter and alternator system, but I don't think it is Autolite.

You can find electrical schematics for Cub Cadets that used Kohlers with Delco starter--generators on the IHCubcadet.com website. (At least I think that is the address.)
You might also post this on the 'Tractor talk' forum above, I do know there are differences between Autolite and Delco electrical equipment.

No. I don't think you will be able to use an alternator wiring schematic unless your Kohler is much newer than you think. I think Kohler started adding alternators to their engines in about 1975 or 76. Of course, there could also be some exception that I am not aware of.
