Good ol' Simplicity

I mow a neighbor lady's lawn (in her '80's and in a wheel chair). It's been bugging me seeing the fringe of weeds around the yard. Farmer left a strip unplanted beyond the grass. This morning I whacked down the weeds with the trusty 1950's Simplicity with a mower attachment I altered (cut off part of the front of the cast aluminum deck). Back then things were made to last- but not always the handiest. I'll say this works better than the Jari mower dad used to make me do similar weed whacking with.

Those were tough two-wheelers. I have one that my Daddy gave me when I was about 12 years old. It still has the old model 9 engine on it. I don't have the mower attachment, though.

I still have one of those, but not the mower. Different times. They worked pretty good in most applications but they needed a person willing to wrestle with it on occasion.

I have a '51 Model V. Original 8 hp engine, 12" Plow, snow blade, sulky. Had the snow thrower but it looked too dangerous to attempt using.
Would like to see what you did with the mower. Cant tell from the pictures.

It's night time now, if I think of it I'll get some pictures tomorrow. As some say "you didn't see it here", I cut off the front part of the deck, incl. one wheel, wouldn't recommend it for "everyone" (the mower attachment was useless for me otherwise). For mowing weeds like this it needs to go slower- a bigger pulley on the jack shaft. I have one of those heavier ones too with the 3 gears forward and 1 reverse.

I like it, that's what I was thinking. I need to find a mower deck for my Model V and do something similar for getting under trees and stuff.

Can you take a picture of the belt arrangement? I may be able to modify a old riding mower deck for just such a use.

Here's the belt arrangement. The mower came with the tractor at an auction, both for $35. That was long ago, different wheels and engine since.

I have that same unaltered

I use the sickle bar attchment
for jobs like that.
