I would like to re-power my 212, with a little more hp...
anyone know what fits and can suggest something. Thanks

Easiest upgrade would be a K321, 14hp version on your 12. Add a bigger carb and better cam if you want. Much easier than a change to another engine type.

The PTO end of the crank has to be in the right position for the variator to work properly.
That limits your choices. The only easy bolt-in repower would be with a Kohler
K-series that has John Deere 200-series specs.

Your current K-301 engine is 12 hp. A K-241 would have 10 hp.
A K-321 would have 14 hp and a K-341 would have 16 hp.

The critical specs are the one-inch PTO diameter and the correct oil pan.
The earlier engines had a one-piece cradle that bolted to the cast oil pan.
The later engines had a two-piece cradle that bolts to ears on the crank-case
and holds the engine on the frame.
You could substitute a later Kohler Magnum if you do some re-wiring.

Why not just rebuild the 301? Dropping in a 321/341 may not make any real noticable differance, a fresh 241 has more usable power than an old 341... in fact I have a pro built 161 that has waaay more pulling power than of them.
