Cub Cadet 1450 Relief valves

About a year ago I bought a 1450 that had a bad relief valve that would pump the transmission fluid out onto the ground in fairly short order. I bought it and bought a rebuilt or reconditioned relief valve, replaced the filter, and filled with new Hytran and it functioned well for all of last summer. Wife used the mower and the reconditioned relief valve failed during the first mowing this season and pumped the transmission dry. This time around I am buying a pair of used valves to replace the valve and have spare on hand.

Question - is there something that would cause these to fail? The oil in this transmission wasn't excessively dirty when I changed it when I bought it - and the filter didn't show any issues.

Would excessive pump pressure cause these to fail? Can you adjust the pressure? This mower seems a bit more responsive the hydrostat than the 1450 I've owned the last 20 years - but I think this one has a lot less hours of use.

''Charge pressure'' can be adjusted, but it's never going to go high enough to blow the O-rings on the little relief pins.

Hydro relief pressure is set by the valves you are working with and non-adjustable.

I would say you got a ''bad'' ''rebuilt'' valve, possibly the pin was rough/had rust pits and cut the new O-ring the ''rebuilder'' had installed.

The two push button that are activated to "safely" push or tow the tractor?

Never heard of any dumping fluid out. I always thought they were a sort of internal action bypass valve to divert fluid in order to tow.

On a 1450 they are automatic - no button to push. I don't think any wide frame had the push button ones.

WRONG. During the Quietline Series, IH made the switch from Manual to Automatic valves. Thus, you can see either type.

The automatic valves is usually used when replacing or updating.
