Engine Swap

Swapping a Briggs in to replace my blown Kohler Courage 18. First hurdle is exhaust. This is in a Cub Cadet XT1. The kohler muffler is mounted under a crossmember ahead of the front axle with an open hole on the side where the exhaust comes out of the engine. The Briggs has the pipe come out of the head and curve around and welded to the muffler opposite side of engine. In order to use the existing exhaust on the Brigggs I'd have to cut out the front cross member/bracket, which I'd rather not do partially because it's the mounting point for the front bumper/grill muffler shroud, and also more labor intensive. I read somewhere that MTD makes an exhaust pipe for adapting to the original setup. Anybody have a source for such parts? Also I've seen a premade adapter to connect Kohler wiring to Briggs as well, but again don't know where to purchase. My next step is to try to contact Briggs. Thanks for any advice.

Since you didn't give us the model of the Briggs engine, is it a flathead?

What confuses me is the exhaust comes out of the overhead valve single cylinder Briggs engines almost in the same spot as the exhaust port
from the Kohler Courage single cylinder.

You are correct, my issue was that I couldn't just swap the pipe from the Kohler to the briggs because the flange bolt orientation doesn't match. The pipe and muffler were all one piece on the Briggs, the pipe being welded to the muffler, and the Kohler the pipe just extended into an opening on the stock muffler.I don't have a welder and have never fabricated an exhaust system. At this point I've cut the pipe and mounted the engine, the exhaust is pointing towards the original stock opening but about half the size of the hole behind it, not lining up exactly. Thanks

I swapped 2 singles for 2 BS v twins: JD L110 and Husqvarna 20k46. JD was a BS and Husq. a Kohler 20 Courage. Holes are on a
10 circle and mate up as do the wiring harnesses/functions. Drive pulleys fit old and new, same belts. The throttle and choke
cables had to be replaced because on the single the carb is on the left side and the twin is out front. Mufflers were obtained used
off ebay as were the modified controls new. Not a big problem and well worth the effort. Picked up the V twins off ebay also. Seem
to be leftovers from a tractor mfgr. Apparently production run left overs....brand new, about $600 free shipping.
