I have a 6 ft. 3pt Agrevere/Howse disk I bought 4 yrs. ago that I have a problem with. If I set the cutting angle anywhere past the 2nd position from neutral it makes the tractor crab sideways. All gangs are set/spaced evenly, the draft arms are level and the sway chains are tightened equally. Everything is set "according to the book". Disk in my opinion is not heavy enough. D frame angle iron. Works fine in #2 position but does not cut deep enough. Pulled with a 5105. If I can run across a good used 10 ft. disk that takes a hyd. cylinder I will buy one. This little disk is a pita to change gang settings.

Jim: You can not use inground working tools with sway chains set tight Not a plow, not a disk and not a cultivator. Those implements have to be able to float sideways. All tight sway chains do is make the tractor impossiblle to steer.

Thanks for the reply, I may use the disk this weekend as we got some much needed rain to soften the ground. Right now the disk is set in #2 and works OK. I adjust the sway chains where they are loose when the disk is in the ground. Anyway It will probably spring befor I attempt to set it in #3 again, takes about 30 min. to adjust everything and I'm gettin' too old for that s.. STUFF! :D

Jim,

I have a med duty (Howse 303) 6 ft disc, it has slotted 18" blades front and back gang.

Gang adjustment is with a lag screw, just turn screw and adjust gangs to any angle you want.

Only problem I have had with the cheaper line of disc is they do not come with scrapers. If the soil is a bit heavy, sometimes you can get soil sticking between disc.

Howse Company official told me to attach a loose chain around the axle between each set of disc that does not have a bearing support. Installed chains and problem when away.
Guess you get what you pay for!

My disc cuts good and tracks fine, for a cheap disc.

had a heavy duty Tufline 6ft disc once, fine tool, but it was so heavy, my TO-35 could not keep it's front tires on ground at the ends. Sold it to a guy who had a 901 ford tractor and it handled the disc fine.

If you can find a Tufline 6ft disc, they are top quality.

This thing cuts fine in the #2 pos., but not deep enough for first disking. Anymore than that makes the tractor pull to the right. I have enough slack in the chains for some sidesway but not enough to let it flop around when I pick up and turn. You actually have to loosen the gangs on their arms to adjust the tracking besides moving the gang arms foward and back for angle setting. It is a PITA!
