10' wheel disc

I am thinking about buying a 10' wheel disc. I have talked with the seller but I have not seen the disc yet. I used to work with the seller and he contacted me about it. He is wanting 200 for it. Just wondering what everybody thinks of that price. I know it's hard to judge without a picture of it and not knowing what make it is. I would be using the disc with a H Farmall. The disc has a two way cyclinder on it, and the H is only one way hyd. Could that cylinder be swapped out with a one way cyclinder? And would the disc work properly? I do know the wheels are in the middle, so I think the rear gang of disc's would remove the tracks.

These days, you don"t get much for $200, so it can easily be worth that. Cyl- just take off the return hose, put in a vent, works fine as a one-way.

That is a really good price, being that small disks are really hard to find and pricey with small farmers/food plotters wanting them. I gave 200 for a 10 ft tandem krause that had a bent axle and needed two spools. Now it is fixed well enough to work, but is not pretty. If it is in good shape, grab it. Otherwise, it may be beat and will require lots of money and labor/welding. I know i managed to get salvage parts and spent only 65 dollars on mine. Your 2 way cylinder will work if you put a breather on one end so when you release the pressure it will go back in with the weight of the wheels/disk.

I pull a 10 ' kewanee with a wd or a d 17 allis. You might not pull it deep but you can pull it. That is the only disc i've ever used.i pull a drag behind it too. You'll figure out how deep you need to make a seedbed .

Remember that WD is rated for a 3 bottom plow and the D17 for 4 bottoms and I have seen where that D17 is rated at 5 bottoms (where it could pull that many I do not know) while the Farmall H is only rated for a 2 bottom plow.

As others have said, I will say with even greater emphasis; a ten foot disk is four feet too wide for an H Farmall. We pulled a ten foot disk with our strong running 40 horsepower DC CASE for years but it was murder on it in some conditions.

I don't doubt the disk is worth $200.

I am certain you will not be pulling it with an H.

New disc blades are around $30 each and bearings are about the same. If the ones on the disc you are buying are worn out you can multiply the number needed by $30 each and a "cheap" disc may not be so cheap after all.

thanks for the replies

I will be looking at the disc sometime this week. I'll know more once I actually look at it.

If I do decide to go with it, I'll prolly be looking around for a M to pull it with.

if your H is running strong and the disk is worn out then the H will pull it. if the disk is in great mechanical condition(probably not for 200) or the H is tired then you will be setting it at low angles and carrying it so it only cuts 3-4 inches deep.
buy it and have fun

A fixed gang angle disk will always pull harder than an adjustable angle unit. Anything ynder 17" on blade size on 7" spacing disk you need new blades, 9" spacing a 18" what most came with and was too small to break up space between blades.
