So we went into the unknown not knowing if the rake would every work again.
The pulley belt shaft was removed all shafts were cleaned and greased. Gear teeth where welded and repaired. Now the little Allis-Chamlers is like new once again.

We learned a lot and I am working on a video of our adventure.

All things can be made new again, just takes a little time and love.

Thank you for your assistance.

(quoted from post at 16:36:50 05/14/12) Good to see the ole girl up and runnin properly. That's too nice a rake, to booger weld on.

its kinda funny how some firms used a different set up. New Holland used a gearbox from the drive shaft to the basket. Here is a belt set up. Was it just to avoid patent infringement? Or somehow better? Obviously, in the hayfield, an enclosed gearbox would not get wrapped with hay.

It takes a special person, to know how to wrap up a belt driven rake, so that it jams up. I used a NI 5 bar rake for years, never jammed it up in any way. I have a neighbor, who I think arrived on the short bus, that gets hay all over him, his tractor, the rake, any rotating pto shaft! Maybe he's statically charged, or something.

If every idea was the same this world would be robots.

I had to practice raking and found each field was different in how it had to be raked. I had old timer give me pointers and each one had a different way of doing. Maybe hay raking is a puzzle with thick and thin grass and you have to play the game of how to get the wind rows to even out the best you can. I concluded life was very much like the hay field. You have thin patches and thick patches, but when you rake it all up in the end all was made into one end resulting in you. Some when raking there life scatter it all around with no since or order. Others rake their life in very neat fashion accounting for every blade of grass. Each receives a choice in life how to rake. The old saying applies “Make hay while the sun still shines”

Enjoy life it is too short to worry how others rake hay.
