Anyone recognize this Flail Mower?

Hi guys, I came across this flail mower on Craig's List and since it is a side mount for mowing ditches I thought it might be a good pick up if I can get more information about it. The guy is asking $600 OBO...

To the best of his knowledge it works but its in 3 pieces and who knows when it was last run. I don't mind the project if I am getting a really good deal but before I even consider it as an option I need to know if it is even possible to run it on my tractor (Oliver 770 Diesel)

Here is what he was able to tell me about how it mounts etc...
I got this mower in an estate sale. All parts are suppose to be there and it appears to be true. It was also working and taken off for a new tractor and mower setup. It came off a JD, but I do not know what model. As far as the frame it looks like the center section mounts to the frame with a long portion that travel all the way back to the draw bar area as well as mounting to the center section. The mower itself mounts to this long section and center section. the tank and pump mounts to the front of the tractor and looks like it is made to fit outside a 22" WIDE frame ( may have been spacers based on rust marks). The center section looks like it mounted about 23.5" to the back of it and narrower to the front.

In another email he told me it has Cartner (which I saw painted on it) and the number 98380 stamped into the aluminum tag on it. I am guessing that's a serial number. It's local (3 hour drive) so I can go look at it and whatever but I've never dealt with this kind of mower before. Anyone have any knowledge on these, what model it might be, if the company is still in business (I can't find much on the internet) and if its possible to get parts and manuals etc... for it?

Any help would be appreciated, here are some pictures....

If it came off of a JD and you want to mount it on an Ollie- you need correct mounting brackets. I wouldn"t drive 3 hours to find out.

possible to mount? yes IF you can weld and fabricate new mounts
otherwise you need to find factory mounts for it
price is very cheep if it is in decent shape
good luck

(quoted from post at 17:50:03 05/16/12) I believe Cartner is part of Motrim now.
motrim

Thanks Tim, I believe that was the contact I needed. You are correct and the sales rep for my area is none other than J Cartner...So it looks like I may be able to get my questions answered from the source.

Appreciate the assistance.

That is definately what I am trying to avoid. If I can get the information I need from the MFG that should allow me to make a much more educated decision.

we have a tractor with a side mounted rotary mower.
It was originally a highway mowing rig. My
opinion is that for general use, a trailed or 3 point
mounted mower would be better. One reason is the
side mounted mower ties up a tractor semi-
permanently versus pulling a few pins (the rotary
style we have interferes with all right side visibility
when in transport position). The other reason is
that turning and maneuverability while mowing
with the side mount is weird. The side mount
crowds into the turn, either leaving a strip uncut, or
forcing you to do a light bulb shaped turn when
with common hay machines you could just spin
around on a dime. The flail mower might be able to
be mounted closer to the rear wheel so as to reduce
that effect I just complained about--many old sickle
mowers were side mounted after all.

If the price is right, you may want to make the mower
into a trailing type, maybe even a hydro swing so
you can cut on either side or the middle.

Are the flails individually mounted on the drum for ease of replacement? If the flails are mounted on a single rod, it is very difficult to replace flails - just walk away and keep on looking.

Do you have real good tires on your tractor? They are very heavy, I have seen tires blow after running over very small, not sharp stuff. You almost need to remove the mower to jack up the rear of the tractor.
