Anyone have a picture of a restored New Idea #4 rake-tedder?

just wondering if anyone has ever seen one of these done up, or if anyone has one with the paint still on it in the correct colors. Every one I have seen is always completely rust and the one I have is the same.

Looks like it might be a fun project, but hard to find parts for.

That rake the frame is an orange called bittersweet and the wheels and real are a green, can't think of the proper name now but close to Oliver green and parts are easy to get. If you have one and need parts contact me and I will direct you to where they are avaible or I may have them. On the gears they did not always use the same color setup on the same gear as I have seen both colors on same gear. And if you could give me a lot number off the tag I could tell you what year it was made and if made early in year or late. Have completely rebuilt them along with the McCormick and John Deere, All setting here now awating their turn at being rebuilt for sale back to the Amish for use with their horses. Factory color paint is avaible but I use Rust-oleum spray cans and they look prety decent to go back in the fields. You are talking in top condition a $500 rake.

Leroy,

Thanks for the information. I grabbed a bunch of bittersweet to do my new idea 290 mow/ditioner from a NI dealer going out of business. I know the green you are talking about. probably the same thing as my mow/ditioner and NI 323 picker. I used rustoleum "hunter green" with good results before.

what part of ohio are you in? I'm near the border with steubenville and east liverpool.

I'll pull it out of the weeds and see what all it needs. I know that it had some major issues when I parked it, but mainly the fact that all but 3 teeth are broken off. hahaha We used it from 1953 until 2004. Are the teeth expensive? Is this paint scheme correct?

Thanks for the offer for parts. I know they aren't worth much, but, it was a fun rake to pull and it did make a nice windrow. The tedder function was pretty worthless in thick hay like we have. I did 3 acres yesterday and made 30 4x4 round bales. IT was jamming teh pick-up on the baler!

hahaha

I have quite a few NOS parts for that rake and also an original "COLOR" sales brochure showing original color scheem. My e-mail is open if interested in any. RB

I am on the western side of the state just off of I75 and US 33 at Wapakoneta and about 40 mile from where that rake was made at Coldwater. They are valuable enough for me to take the front part of a frame and cut off the bad part of the back end of the frame and take the back part from anouther and weld them together and also to weld in new sections in the tooth bars where they rust away in the bearings or on other models where the bar itself wears away running in the bearings. I forgot what the teeth were as I think I have enough for my projects now but they were cheaper than the ones I am needing for my McCormick rakes at $2.79 and $2.99 each. I would say thatpaint is correct and way better than any around here as all I find are just rust. I did grow up with one but it was sold in about 81 or 82. If you want I can give you an address of the dealer that has them at a good price but being Amish he has no phone so you would have to deal by snail mail. Lester
