5400 White Planter air

Hey i have an old white planter you know the one with the fans on every unit im having truble with the fans. So what i was thinking was could i take my pto air compresor and run a line into where the fans are now. would that work. its not a vaccume system its just the kind where the air blows thrue the holes on the plate keeping a seed ther until it hits the brush. i would keep everything air tight.

Not familiar with the pto pump but think that it might not have enough volume of air. I have a MF planter that's the same as a White and when one of the fans went bad my neighbor brought over a heater fan off a Volkswagon he had sitting in the junk and it worked just like the original.

I am not sure what your problem might be. Years
ago I had a 5400. It would not hold all the
seeds in the seed disc. We put on an alternator
with a higher voltage regulator (about 14 volts}.
That seemed to help quite a bit.

i have a Ford 3000 and it needs more amps to run the fans and i dont have a pto alternator and i know 3 of the 4 fans are shot

I don't want to be clear out of line here but I think your White planter runs on vacuum & not pressure. I know your planter has a fan on it but I also remember seeing a guage near the fan & it was a vacuum gauge & not a pressure gauge. Now you got me thinking!!!!!!!! Let me know what you find out. Gerald

No,it's pressure not vaccum. I don't know why they used a fan on each unit anyway. I had one, have an AC 333 now that uses the same seed discs and that one uses one fan per 2 rows. There is a T and a hose that runs to each row unit from the one fan. I'm not saying cobble, but with some duct tape and dryer hose, maybe you can get enough air from one unit to run 2.

some 8 rows had an alternator on the planter, you need a good charging system with an alt. they worked ok for the most part and yes they use air pressure, remember vaccuum sucks! current planter is and next planter will be finger pickup
