Light duty seeder/drill shopping

If you needed a unit to use for about 15 acres per year for small grains and grass (legumes and other forages), what would you be on the look out for? In other words, grain, grass seed box needed. Fertilizer box nice but not necessary. Possible short list- Intl #10, JD FB series. Need something that dependably works and not a handyman special i.e. field ready. For the limited acreage, I would think a budget of $1,000 maximum. That may rule out some models like JD 8XXX, Intl #510. What would you add or subtract to my list?

I bought a 10 foot International 10 (I believe) of the 1950's vintage with grain box, grass seed box and steel wheels. It was all stuck solid due to sitting outside for many years without moving. I took it apart bolt by bolt last winter to get everything moving again and now it is like new - once I sandblast it and give it a new coat of paint! It cost me $200.

Brillion makes one, but it is about $10K. We have a problem getting clover and brassica seed applied uniformly. Have been using a hand carried cyclone seeder, but even that doesn't give uniform coverage. I have considered a drill and use just the working seed box, but am afraid I will end up with another piece of junk that has to be stored and is always broken. All the used drills < $500 that I have looked at have been eaten up by fertilizer.

Around here, you can get a John Deere 8200 for less than $1000. They don't sell real high. That is what I use. I had a IH 5100 I had trouble selling. I put it in a consignment auction and I think I got about $300 out of it. It was a really good drill too. Not much market around here for conventional drills.
