Following a discussion on another board but am not a member. I just wanted to chime in in case the OP frequents this site. Positives : metering system, "pull" style gauge wheels. Negatives : closing system in rocky conditions, three row dry fertilizer boxes. I've seen low acre 1200's traded in due to the closing system being a rock catcher. If you thought foreign material in a two row dry box is bad having a small pebble from where the payloader scraped to close to the driveway at the fertilizer plant the three row is a nightmare to free up if caught in the center. I had this happen on an older IH planter and vowed not to have to shovel out several hundred pounds of fertilizer again. It does not matter what the color is but aged bearings are a problem and can be expected over time. Not a fan of tractor powered hydraulic blower drive on smaller planters. Sometimes all you have is a 40 or 50 year old tractor to pull a planter and chances are the hydraulics/ cooling is inadequate. Shoup has a lot of wear items for planters especially older JD if you are wanting to avoid the dealer. Not trying to be down on the 1200 planter but not everything is sunshine and roses with it.
